![]() Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 46 km beneath the epicenter near Ōita, Ōita City, Oita, Japan, in the morning on Sunday, September 12th, 2021, at 11:17 am local time. An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 14 minutes ago 45 km southeast of Ōita, Japan, Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
